Today marks the end of our 6th M&E week. It has been a week full of activities geared towards learning and sharing of experiences as well a reflection on progress made since we last hosted a similar event last year.
As stated in our opening ceremony, this year’s M&E week Theme
‘Moving forward Agenda 2030: Monitoring and Evaluation for SDGs in achieving the Country’s development results”
Was selected to provide a take-off platform for the third Medium Term Plan for the Kenya Vision 2030 whose implementation starts in January 2018.
I wish to reiterate my ministry’s support in the implementation of the SDGs. In this regard, I note that we have worked with the various sectors to mainstream SDGs in the MTP III. We have also identified and adopted 128 indicators to be monitored and reported on.
The commencement of implementation of SDGs presents new challenges which countries all over the world are grappling with on how to deal with them. Effective monitoring and evaluation is expected to generate credible evidence that will support critical policy decisions along the way and progressively contribute to achievement of the targets and goals. This event provided a platform for learning and sharing of experience as key contribution towards measuring results and accountability for Kenyans in meeting the SDG agenda 2030.
It is my sincere hope that we all had fruitful deliberations and the conference objectives have been met. Above all, I believe the conference met your expectations and you maximized from the various sessions.
Ladies and gentlemen
I hope that after this conference, we will continue interactions and networking with the goal of moving forward the Agenda 2030. At the local level, the deliberations from this conference will play a great role in informing the tracking of progress of implementation of the third MTP which integrates SDGs and Agenda 2030.
I believe you will implement good practices learnt from this conference in formulating and implementing M&E at your organizations. At the National level, we will pursue the cabinet approval of the National M&E policy and thereafter present an M&E bill to parliament. I also call upon counties that have not developed or finalized their M&E policy to develop and fast-track their finalization. This will support building and institutionalizing the culture of M&E at the county level and overall translate into development results.
Ladies and Gentlemen
I take this opportunity to thank our development partners namely UNDP, UNICEF, The African Development Bank and the African Community of Practice on Managing Development Results (AfCOP-MfDR), the Center for Learning on Evaluation and Results-Anglophone Africa (CLEAR AA) and the Twende Mbele Partnership Organization for making the event a success through various forms of support. I also wish to thank all participants for taking time out of their busy schedule to be with us here for whole week.
Last but not least, I wish to reiterate the Ministry’s commitment to this noble cause and look forward to meeting you again in the 7th M&E week.
It is now my pleasure to officially close the conference and wish you safe journey back to your destinations.
